Clay County Director of Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites Charlie Barr should get his stewardship badge.

Ten years ago, officials from Clay and Platte counties jointly forged the Northland Trails Vision Plan in response to demands from residents for more recreational opportunities.

Since 2000, both counties have added dozens of miles of trails and hundreds of acres of parks.
