A carnival worker from Kansas City has been charged with assault at the Jesse James Festival. Kearney Police Sgt. John Stewart said Robbe D. Turner, 35, of Kansas City was charged with assault after threatening another carnival worker with “a pretty good-sized knife.” Police confiscated about a 12-inch knife from Turner after they were called to the carnival area of Jesse James Park around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20. Stewart said Turner and another carnival worker were having a dispute that prompted Turner to pull out the knife. Stewart said part of the dispute was about the other carnival worker, who was not identified, wanting to go to the hospital for a preexisting condition. The unidentified worker was taken to an area hospital via ambulance. The trip to the hospital was not a result of any harm caused by Turner, Stewart said.

I used to live in Kearney and always looked forward to the yearly festival. But anymore it isn't even fun. It's entirely too large, and I see more people that I do not know than ones that I do. I understand it brings in a large revenue to the city, but I miss the good old days when they had it on the main road, where all the residents of Kearney were able to get together.
